East Jackson High School To Benefit From USDA FASLP Grant
East Jackson High School will benefit from the two-year, $400,000 USDA Food and Agriculture Service Learning Program Grant. The grant is in conjunction with the University of Georgia. The grant comes on the heels of a multi-year approval and development process between the staff at EJHS and UGA.
The grant will focus on growing school-based student leadership through food-oriented service learning in Jackson County. As part of the grant, the University of Georgia will place a member at EJHS for multiple hours each week to assist with the implementation process, which is also coordinated through the school's STEM program.
UGA will supply $3,000 for each of the two years to go toward materials and supplies for the school garden and greenhouse implementation, funding to bring students to the UGAarden, funding to send three teachers to the GIKI Summer Workshop, and funding to send one to two teachers to attend the National Youth Leadership Council. UGA will also supply curriculum support and development to East Jackson High School.
