EJHS, JCHS Named AP Honor Schools

EJHS, JCHS Named AP Honor Schools

The Georgia Department of Education has named East Jackson High School and Jackson County High School as Advanced Placement Honor Schools, the state announced Friday. 

Both schools received the distinctions for multiple categories, as schools that offer advanced placement courses are ranked in eight categories. East Jackson High School was named an AP Humanities School, AP Humanities with Achievement School, AP STEM School and an AP STEM Achievement School. Jackson County High School was named an AP Expansion School, AP Honor School with Distinction and an AP STEM School. 

​Both East Jackson and Jackson County offer robust advanced placement courses offerings, which allow students to take advanced content, earn college credit through an end-of-course AP test and boost their college application resumes. 

Schools earn the AP Humanities School honor by administering at least five exams in four different content areas, with at least 25 total exams being administered. An AP Humanities with Achievement School recognition is earned by having all at least 50 percent of all AP Humanities exams earning at least a score of three (out of five). 

To earn the AP STEM School recognition, schools must administer at least five exams in four separate STEM areas (Math, Science and Computer Science with at least 25 exams administered. To earn the STEM Achievement honor, 50 percent of those exams must earn at least a score of three. 

To earn the AP Honor School with Distinction recognition, a school must have at least 20 percent of its total student enrollment taking AP exams, and at least 50 percent of those exams earning at least a score of three. The Expansion School recognition, which East Jackson earned a year ago, recognizes schools that boast at least a 25 percent growth in AP student participation and administer at least 25 students testing.
